How was getting started on breastfeeding for your wife/partner/whatever? Was it easy or hard? Did you have to call a lactation coach or whatever?

I watched my mother breastfeed nine younger brothers and sisters so I knew what to do when my wife ran into problems. The main thing is to be their with them; don’t let her struggle alone.

It can be tough, especially if you don’t do any homework ahead of time.

We had to bring in a lactation coach to show my wife how to get ready and get the baby latched properly. It was tough because we had NO idea it was going to be anything but a fairytale. Holy cow, it was frustrating and demoralizing for my wife. Luckily the coaching paid off.

There’s good info in WTF that I wish we’d had before our baby was born. Would have saved us some tears, for sure…
